Hello and welcome :-)

Hello and welcome to the gay film blog ;-). We have a lot to teach you. You will see details of the course below. It includes information about the production process, principles of screenwriting, the fundamentals of cinematography, the making of a (very) small film :-) and the edit. So enjoy!

We are merely scouting for interest at this stage-the course will go ahead in Outhouse Capel street only if you contact us. The email is gayfilmcourse@gmail.com. The fee is 200 euros.

(Please note that the below schedule is provisional and subject to minor change. A confirmed schedule with confirmed dates will be given once sufficient interest is given to go ahead with the course. Thank you).

For your information I have an M.A. in Film Production. My film partner is also a skilled cameraman and editor.

Day 1-Introduction and Film production roles

Morning:

We will give an introduction regarding the course schedule and swiftly begin a detailed account of everybody's role in making a film. This will be a very valuable knowledge builder about the industry workings! The pre-production, production and post-production elements of a film will be explained. We will also look at the role of the producer, director, production managers, production coordinators, first assistant director, clapper/loader (the guys that goes: 'scene 5, take 2' ;-)), sound, production designer, writer, editor, sound design...phew-and the list goes on.

Afternoon:

We will continue with and close our presentation on the roles involved in film production :-)

Day 2-Screenwriting and cinematography

Morning:

The principles of screeniwriting as well as the formatting of a film script will be gone through in detail in the morning. This is very worthwhile for anyone thinking of being a writer! More details will be given on the day.

Afternoon:

The fundamentals of cinematography will be given in the afternoon including technical terms such as depth of field, apertures, lenses, f-stops etc. (If you never heard of these terms don't worry-all will be revealed :-)). This is very good basic knowledge for anyone interested in cinematography. It is also essential knowledge for a director working with the DP (Director of Photography). Industry camera types will also be explained in addition to the practical demonstration of how to work our HDV camera that will be used for the shoot.

Day 3-The Shoot

Morning:

We will prepare everything for the shoot in the morning including going through the short script and rehearsal of each person's role.

Afternoon:

A two hour shoot. Details given on the day :-)

Day 4-Editing

We will edit our film on day 4. Either Final Cut Pro or Adobe editing software will be used. These are both industry standard software. The idea is to be given basic instruction via demonstration, on how to use an editing programme. We will all then hopefully participate in the decisions regarding the edit finish.
